Arthroplasty

Arthroplasty etymologically means “reforming the joint.” It is an orthopedic procedure whereby the articular surface of a joint is replaced (often with an artificial implant), remodeled, or realigned by osteotomy and/or other techniques. It is an elective surgical procedure, generally performed to relieve pain and restore function to the joint affected by arthritis or trauma.
